Terms of Service

Draft of 8 September 2026 · version 0-draft

These terms are a draft and have not been reviewed by a lawyer.

If you create an account now you are agreeing to these interim terms, and we will ask you to review and accept the final version once it is published. We record the date and the version you accepted.

The agreement

These terms are between you and Somara. By creating an account, or by using the API or an agent connection, you agree to them. If you are agreeing on behalf of a company, you are confirming you may bind it.

What Somara is

Somara is accounting software. It keeps a double-entry general ledger, imports bank and file records, and produces reports from what is in it.

Somara is not an accountant. It does not give accounting, tax, legal or investment advice. Categorizations, reports and forecasts are generated from the data you supply, and they are yours to check. Have a qualified professional review anything you file or rely on.

Your account

  • Give accurate information and keep your email address current.
  • You are responsible for what happens under your account.
  • You are responsible for the credentials you issue to agents and for what those agents do with them. Revoke any credential you no longer trust.
  • You must be old enough to enter a contract where you live.

Your data is yours

You keep all rights to the data you put into Somara. You grant us only the permission needed to host, process and display it so the product works for you, and to keep backups.

We do not train models on your data and we do not sell it. You can export your books at any time, including after you cancel and during the 30 days that follow.

Acceptable use

Do not:

  • Break the law with it, or use it to launder money or commit fraud.
  • Upload someone else's data without the right to do so.
  • Attack the service, or try to reach another customer's books.
  • Resell access, or evade usage limits.

Payment

Somara is $19 per month per organization, after a free trial. Fees are billed in advance through Stripe and are not refundable except where the law requires it.

Fair use: an organization may connect up to 30 bank accounts. If you need more, write to us rather than opening a second organization.

We may change the price. If we do, we will tell you before it takes effect, and you may cancel instead.

Cancelling

You can cancel at any time and keep access until the end of the period you have paid for. After that, the dashboard locks.

We keep your data for 30 days after cancellation, then clear it. We email you when you cancel and again seven days before the deadline. Export what you need before then. See the Privacy Policy.

Availability

We work to keep Somara running, but we do not promise a particular level of uptime. We may change or discontinue features. If we discontinue the service altogether, we will give you reasonable notice and a way to export your books.

Third-party services

Bank connections, payment, email and imports depend on services we do not control, including Plaid, Stripe, Resend and Intuit. Their availability and accuracy are theirs, not ours. Connecting one may mean agreeing to their terms as well.

Warranties and liability

Somara is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows.

The limitation of liability, indemnity, governing law and dispute-resolution clauses are deliberately absent from this draft. They are the clauses that most need a lawyer to write, and inventing them here would be worse than leaving the gap visible.

Changes

If we change these terms materially, we will publish a new version and ask you to accept it. We record which version you accepted and when.
