Budgets
Budgets (personal mode) let you set a monthly target per spending category and see it against what you've actually spent so far this month. They're a planning layer on top of the ledger — setting a budget posts nothing; nothing changes in your accounts.
Find them at Budgets in the sidebar (/dashboard/budgets).
How it works
- Each expense account can have one monthly target.
- Spent is computed live from this month's income statement, summed across every expense category (operating and other), so it always reflects your posted transactions — no separate bookkeeping.
- Remaining is target − spent; over-budget categories are flagged.
Set a category's budget by typing an amount on the Budgets page — it saves on blur. The page shows a month summary (budgeted vs spent vs remaining) and a row per category with a progress bar.
Notes
- Budgets are per month as a single recurring target — there's no per-month variation or rollover yet.
- They cover spending categories (expense accounts). Income and balance-sheet accounts aren't budgeted.
- Budgets are a dashboard feature; there's no public API or MCP tool for them.
